Cashmere Queen

35% Cashmere, absolute luxury….20% Silk, beautiful sheen and strength….blended with 45% merino, soft and yummy! What do you have? Polka Dot Sheep’s newest yarn, Schoppel Wolle Cashmere Queen. So new that Aimee is just knitting it up as I write, but she giving it rave reviews. Really, why wouldn’t she with that wonderful blend of fibers?

As I was pursing Ravelry to see what other knitters had made with this lovely yarn, I saw lots of accessories. Then I thought, we have two free Polka Dot Sheep scarf patterns that would work with Cashmere Queen. Either Autumn Day and Winter Haven would be lovely and require only two skeins. You might have to knit a bit to figure out the right needles for the fabric you want. For example, I think you might start with US 7 with the Autumn Days. The lovely part about knitting scarves is that gauge isn’t always as important but you will want the patterns in the lace to show up. I would also recommend knitting until you ran out of yarn. Don’t let a tiny ball of this yarn languish in your stash, have it wrapped around your neck.

There are any number of patterns for fingerless mitts available. If you are anything like me, you likely have patterns in knitting books or magazines right beside your chair that will work great with Cashmere Queen. I love fingerless mitts, they are quite practical for mommies putting kids in car seats. Those buckles are hard to work with gloved or mitten covered fingers. If you are the sort of person who has vowed to start your 2012 Christmas knitting early in the year, make up a pair for mitts for someone you love. Of course, I am not that sort of person and I would have a hard time waiting until Christmas to give them to their intended recipient. But it is a good idea and it seems that it would much easier to be disciplined in completing Christmas knitting early if you using cashmere and silk.

Just one last thought about Cashmere Queen…We female knitters often forget that guys like luxury items too. I think the grey pictured above would make a fabulous neck warmer, scarf or hat for the special guy in your life. Maybe for Valentine’s Day, think about how much fun it will be to knit.

Happy Knitting!

PS. Did you know we now have six different yarns that ruffle up? Check them out here.
