Win Yarn and Find a Cure! ALS Raffle

Dr. Erik Schroeder, PALS (person with ALS)

Update: Congratulations to Theresa M. our raffle winner. We raised $1690.00 for the ALS foundation. Thank you all so much for making this effort a success.

About a year ago, a close friend of our family, Erik Schroeder,  was diagnosed with ALS / Lou Gehrig’s disease. At the time, the news was devastating.  A young healthy man in his 30’s with a beautiful wife and three small children, how can this be?  A lot has happened in a year. While still fearful at times,  together our families have learned to live each day with love and hope, enjoying the moment.  Somehow, through the grace of God, we live with gusto.  Even the Schroeder’s will tell you that except for the diagnosis, they are happier than they’ve ever been. A small miracle in itself.   Though the progression of Erik’s symptoms is moving slowly, signs of this crippling disease are showing. With hopes of receiving another miracle, that of a cure, our family will be joining Erik and his family October 6th for the annual Hope, Live, Walk event in Missoula, Montana. Although it will be difficult, Erik will be walking this year.

As you can imagine, my husband and I have become very passionate about this cause. ALS is a horribly tragic and terminal disease. As of today, there is no known cure. While walking to raise awareness for this disease and the ALS Association, it’s also Team Schroeder’s goal to raise more than the $30,000 we raised last year. You can help us achieve this lofty goal by purchasing raffle tickets for a chance at winning a $200.00 gift certificate to the Knit ‘n Needle Yarn Shoppe / You don’ t have to live locally to get a chance to win this gift certificate as you can redeem the $200.00 online or in store.

We will be drawing the winning ticket on Monday October 8, 2012. All funds raised go directly to the ALS Association for funding research and providing much-needed services to patients and their families.

My husband and I remain hopeful that we will soon hear ourselves saying “we know an ALS survivor”, and with your help that day will come. You may purchase tickets online in bulk using a credit card or send a check made out to the ALSA to the Knit ‘N Needle. Whether you purchase online or send a check, we will contact you to confirm that we received your donation and that your tickets have been added to the pot. Remember, no amount is too small.

Raffle Tickets for a $200.00 Gift Certificate:
$1.00 each or
25 tickets for $20.00
60 tickets for $50.00

Send a check to:

Knit ‘n Needle Yarn Shoppe
14 Lupfer Ave
Whitefish, MT 59937
(include your phone and email so that we can confirm we’ve received your check and have added your tickets to the pot)

Thank you for supporting Knit ‘n Needle Yarn Shoppe for Team Schroeder,

Aimee Alexander

This is a photo of our families participating in the 2012 Glacier Challenge. We ran, biked, canoed, and kayaked to raise awareness for ALS.

For anyone who lives locally, please know that Erik and Andrea have not yet told their beautiful three children the extent of Erik’s diagnosis. Please be sensitive should you run into them.
